How does the Sankofa High Speed
Internet service work?
Sankofa’s technology connects you to the Internet
using a wireless modem in your home or office. The wireless
modem connects over the air to a Sankofa gateway located
in your neighborhood, which relays your signals to our
sankofa-area connection to the Internet.
What
do I need to use this service?
To install Sankofa service, you
receive a wireless modem once you place an order with
us and paid for in full. The modem will be connected to
your computer with an Ethernet cable, so your computer
needs to have an Ethernet jack or Network Interface card
already installed. There are two types of installation
that vary depending on the location of your house or business
with respect to our nearest gateway. To see which type
of installation your home or business qualifies for please
contact us so we can perform site survey at your location.
Is
the service difficult to install?
Sankofa professionally installs
and provide service for every valued customer. One of
our professional installation technicians will come to
your house or office and mount a small antenna (less than
6” x 6”) outside on a roof, chimney, eve,
or balcony and run a cable from the antenna outside of
your house or office to the network card that is already
installed in your computer. This installation will require
approximately 1-3 hours.

Where
can a customer access the service?
With Sankofa’s High Speed
Internet service, your computer is connected to the Internet
over the air – meaning there is no telephone line
or cable line to connect. This means that you won’t
be tying up your telephone line when you go online. It
also means you can take your modem to a friend’s
house or office (if they are in our service area) or your
back yard and use your service there!
What
security does Sankofa provide?
Sankofa’s wireless modem automatically
encrypts your data, ensuring others can’t intercept
your transmissions. In addition, the modem contains a
hardware firewall to provide additional protection from
outsiders gaining access to your computer system.
What
other steps can the customer take to ensure maximum security?
Any security system has limitations,
and cannot protect you from all threats on the Internet.
Sankofa strongly encourages you to learn about additional
security & privacy measures you can take, such as
maintaining up-to-date anti-virus software and properly
configuring your computer.
Can
I access my corporate account using this service?
Yes, your company can help you set
up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to connect to your
corporate network from home using your Sankofa service.
